Firstly, you may not know what speechies do. We assess, manage, treat and educate people about a whole range of communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan. Our range of practice areas include speech (including motor speech difficulties), language, fluency (think stuttering), voice, AAC (augmented and assisted communication) and swallowing (including feeding and mealtime difficulties). Occasionally we branch out to other related areas such a diagnosing lip/tongue ties too but generally these require additional training and not all speechies specialise in this work.
I’ve most recently been working for a private practice in Warragul and also in a school environment. I have been primarily working with children with speech and language difficulties, however I have had some experience with literacy difficulties, motor speech disorders and stuttering behaviours.
I have a real passion for all things language related. There’s nothing more satisfying for me than to watch a client express their wants and needs and to be able to actively participate in social situations. For me strong communication = social inclusion = happiness! Simple I know 😊
On a personal note - I’m a mum of 3 gorgeous girls aged 2, 3.5 and 10 which keeps me really busy most of the time! I’m also an ex fitness instructor so in my spare time I love attending functional fitness classes to attempt to stay fit. I also love hanging out with my girlfriends and my family whenever I get the chance.
I am particularly interested in orthotic prescription used in conjunction with foot strengthening and graduated return-to-function programming.
I have a passion for strength training and enjoy formulating simplistic functional rehabilitation routines for sports and post surgery related pathologies.
I maintain yearly registration and upkeep my CPD by engaging with the latest literature and clinical techniques.
With that said, I believe the patient holds the key to their own resolution and I endevour to work with them towards achieving their goals``.
